GFX 010 - HISTORY – EDWARD SENDS HAROLD TO FRANCE
At the start of our story, King Edward has been on the throne for 23 years. England is still a relatively new country, but it is a peaceful and prosperous one.
There’s only one problem. The king has no children, no heir. And the Confessor is yet to name a Successor.
He meets with his brother-in-law, Harold Godwinson, the Earl of Wessex, and sends him on a mission to France.
The exact purpose of the trip we can’t be sure, but some say he orders Harold to swear allegiance to William, Duke of Normandy, to whom he has promised the throne.
This agreement will secure the future of the monarchy and the safety of England.
